Nuaire Takes the Next Step Towards Sustainability: Reducing 1.8 Tons of Plastic & 7.9 Tons of CO2
“At Nuaire, sustainability isn’t just a goal – it’s a commitment. As part of our ongoing efforts to reduce our environmental impact and comply with the Welsh Government Guidelines, we are proud to announce the implementation of recycling bins by @Unisort, across all of our business locations. This move is a key part of our strategy to create a more sustainable future and align with the government’s vision for a greener Wales”. – Stephen Flood (Quality, Safety, Health & Environmental Manager).
Our Impact: A Greener Tomorrow
This is about fostering a more organised and environmentally-conscious solution, it’s about creating a lasting change. With the introduction of these recycling bins, we are poised to reduce:
- 1.8 Tons of Plastic
- 7.9 Tons of CO2
- The equivalent of 1 homes’ energy use for an entire year
- 158,000 water bottles that won’t end up in landfills
- The same environmental benefit as taking 19,609 miles off the road (equivalent to an average petrol car)
These reductions highlight the real-world impact of recycling, and we’re proud to be part of the solution. Every step counts, and every item we recycle helps us move closer to a more sustainable future
Why This Matter
By implementing these new recycling bins, we’re encouraging our employees and visitors to sort waste properly, reducing contamination, and ensuring that materials are recycled more effectively. This will not only help reduce plastic waste but also contribute to energy savings and cut down on harmful emissions.
It’s More Than Just Recycling
At Nuaire, sustainability goes beyond just waste management – it’s about adopting practices that align with a cleaner, greener future. This initiative is just one of the many steps we are taking to integrate eco-friendly practices into every aspect of our business.
Zero Waste to Landfill Certification
The process of converting Nuaire’s waste to energy involves energy recovery technology, where pre-treated nonrecyclable waste is burned at high temperatures under carefully controlled conditions. This process is highly efficient, robust , and safe, with emissions treated to comply with the stringent European Industrial Emissions Directive, which is strictly enforced and monitored by NRW in Wales.
A number of large manufacturing companies in Wales, including Nuaire, have achieved zero waste to landfill, with Forward Waste Management as their waste contractor. Nuaire is one of the first manufacturers in Wales to reach this status. The electricity generated from energy recovery is fed into the National Grid, while the heat can be used locally, presenting opportunities for further commercial development and improved resource efficiency.
The process also produces bottom ash, which is recycled as aggregate material for the construction industry, and Air Pollution Control residue (APCr), which is safely recycled or disposed of at licensed facilities.
Energy recovery is a well- established technology across Europe, working alongside high recycling rates to help meet landfill diversion targets.
The disposal site adheres to the highest standards of quality, environmental responsibility, energy efficiency, and health and safety, certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and OHSAS 18008.
Nuaire’s Role in Genuit Group’s Science-Based Targets for Net Zero
Scope 3 emissions are indirect emissions from our supply chain, including categories like transportation, business travel and purchased goods. With the Science-Based Targets Initiative (SBTI), we will now begin tracking and reducing these emissions, projects will focus on reducing carbon across these Scope 3 categories.
Nuaire plays an active role in aligning with the SBTI’s to contribute to achieving net-zero emissions. By setting science-based targets, Nuaire commits to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions in line with climate science, ensuring that our strategies contribute to global efforts to limit global warming. These targets help guide Nuaire’s carbon reduction initiatives, including Scope 1,2 and Scope 3 emissions, advancing toward a sustainable, low-carbon future.
